Faith-filled Disciples of Christ
The St. Charles Choir offers an exciting musical experience for all students in grades 3 through 8 under the direction of Frank Lewis. No singing or musical experience is necessary to join the Saint Charles Choir. The choir learns the basics of good choral singing and musicianship. Foundations such as sight-reading, solfege skills, rhythm counting, choral skills (tone quality, balance, blend, diction, etc.), are taught through a variety of music repertoire throughout the year that includes songs in different styles and languages, representing different historical periods. Choir students will perform their music in public on a regular schedule throughout the year, including at school masses and prayer services, assemblies, concerts, and community events. Open registration to join choir is held at the start of the school year in September.
Choir teaches students the importance and necessity of unity and teamwork. Together they experience the satisfaction of achieving improvement/excellence over time through hard work and discipline. Choir students become sharper listeners, better audience members, and develop an increased love and appreciation for music. The skills developed overtime in this group setting prepare students with the needed skills to continue on as successful choral musicians at the high school level.
The Choir curriculum is aligned to the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) standards: https://nafme.org/my-classroom/standards/
Along with an emphasis on Social Emotional Learning (SEL).
