GOD
LOVES YOU! These three words sum up

This is Good News and it sustains
us in many different ways. At the same time, most want to know in
greater detail what these words mean. As Catholics, we have a developed
an extensive explanation of this Good News. The Universal
Catholic Catechism, revised in 1997, is the official
summary of the Church's understanding of the central message of
our Faith and Church: God Loves You.

ONE WAY OF
DESCRIBING WHAT IT MEANS TO BE CATHOLIC IS TO SAY TO BE CATHOLIC IS TO
SEE, CELEBRATE AND
LIVE LIFE
AS CHRIST
TAUGHT. |

Catholics
SEE the Divine in the Ordinary. This is
what we celebrate at Christmas. God is present to us in a way that we can
understand. God's presence tells us that there is a purpose to life and that we
are blessed and called to share in goodness and life.
As a result of
this vision, Catholics CELEBRATE life in a
certain way. Catholics celebrate the Good News of God's saving work primarily
through the Sacraments and Prayer, especially the Eucharist (the Mass). The
Eucharist both expresses the Union of Love that already exists and shapes the
efforts of those who participate as they grow in Love.
All this leads
Catholics to LIVE life as disciples of
Christ. All those who are baptized in Christ are called to live a life of
holiness. "Love God and Love Neighbor" sums up the life Catholics are to live.
The challenge is to put flesh on these words, to make them real in day to day
life. The Holy Spirit enlightens, guides and strengthens us in living a life of
holiness and love. Catholics live this life not simply as individuals but as
members of a larger community (The Church) which is led by
Bishops.
