Seattle Archdiocese Safe Environment Information

In 2002, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop’s drafted the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People to ensure the safety of children involved in all Church sponsored activities and to raise parental awareness of child safety issues. Within the Archdiocese of Seattle this program is referred to as the Safe Environment/Virtus Program.

RETURNING PARENTS!  Because the Archdiocese has changed their training program, you do need to go in, set up your account and make sure the information is correct.  You should see a list of the classes you have already taken, your background check and up-to-date contact information including email.  The timeline has been changed so that you will only need to take an update online class every three years rather than the one year it has been in the past.  The background check and class will be done in the same timeline

NEW PARENTS!  In order to volunteer at St. Charles, you will need to set up a Virtus account, sign up for a Protecting God's Children class and fill out a background check.  To do that, go to and click on Registration.  You will be walked through the process.  The initial class is a 3 hour on-site class and you must sign up in advance.  We will have a class here at St. Charles on August 29, 2016 at 7 pm in Feist Hall.  There will be classes at other locations in the area, but this is probably the most convenient for our parents.  We do not have any other dates set up at this point but we will do more of the classes as the year goes on.
