September 10th- 17th, 2010
Saint Charles Borromeo
Monthly virtue: love
Student of the Week
Each week we will be celebrating a different student. The assigned student will bring home a sheet to fill out and a white paper to decorate with pictures of their family and friends. They will share their papers with the class and it will be hung in the hallway.
Needed for Third Grade Emergency Food Supply
(Categorized by last name)
- A-D – Package of hard candy
- E-H – Small jar of peanut butter
- I-N- One box of Saltine/Ritz crackers
- O-Z- Lg bag of Beef Jerky
Snacks
Students may bring in a healthy snack daily. I try to keep a stash of snacks for those who forget. If you are heading to Costco and you want to donate some yummy snacks, please send in a bag of pretzels, Goldfish crackers, Cheez-Its, or a square tub of animal crackers. We need that extra fuel for our busy days! THANKS!
Back To School Night
Please join us on Wed., Sept. 22nd at 7pm to discuss the happenings of our class and get your questions answered. Feel free to email me before then with any questions.
Spelling Time!
Our weekly spelling test begins next week! On Mondays, I will give a pre-test with all of the words and if someone gets 100% on the pre-test, they are exempt from taking the test again on Friday! The bonus word must also be correct to be excused from Friday’s test. The words will be a combination from our language arts series and words we use often in class. Next week’s words are: happen, pretty, letter, million, little, rabbit, hurry, muffins, balloon, ladder, puddle, middle, hammer, lesson, drill. BONUS WORD: timeline. These are all words with short vowels.
Religion
This week we will begin discuss the sacraments. Family discussions about the sacraments and which the students have received would be very beneficial for our class discussions.
Math
In Math we have been reviewing place value. We will begin learning about the thousands and ten-thousands places. This can be a bit challenging so any extra help at home would be appreciated.
Social Studies Timeline
In Social Studies we are learning how to take notes about the material that we read. We have begun learning about the Kwakiutl Native Americans.
This week, students are asked to make a timeline of events from their life. They may use pictures and writing to describe each event. Timelines are due and will be presented on Friday, September 17th.
Birthday Treats
Students are invited to bring in a birthday treat for the class (28 students) on their special day. If we are not in school on their birthday please talk to me to see when a good day would be to bring in treats.
Safe Environment Training
All volunteers who work one-on-one with minors or vulnerable adults are required by the Archdiocese of Seattle to take the Safe Environment class. This is an hour class which will be presented here at
To sign up for the class, go to www.seattle.setanet.org and click on “register for classes”. Scroll down the list of locations and sign up. Everyone
attending the class must sign up in order to get the verification that the class has been taken.
Those volunteers who have taken the initial training are required to do an update on an annual basis. You can access those online update by going to www.seattle.setanet.org and clicking on “My Obligations”. Once your information is entered, you can follow the prompts to complete the update. The update should only take about 15 minutes and is quite simple.
