GRADE 7 - PHYSICAL SCIENCE

In 7th grade, the physical science class is designed is give the students an introduction to the concepts of physics and chemistry. Labs are performed to give students a hands-on demonstration of the laws of physics and chemistry and to apply to the concepts in everyday life. The first half of the year focuses on physics specifically Newton’s Laws of Motion, Work and Energy. We culminate theses with a sports project applying the concepts learned to a sport. The second half of the year focuses on an introduction to chemistry starting with the periodic table and culminating with chemical reactions. To end the year and transition into 8th grade, we take a field trip to a beach on the Puget Sound to identify different marine species.

GRADE 8 - LIFE SCIENCE

In 8th grade, the life science class is designed is give the students an introduction to the concepts of biology. Labs are performed to give students a hands-on demonstration of the concepts of life science and to apply to the concepts in everyday life. The first half of the year focuses on characteristics of life, ecology, cells and genetics. Some of the activities will do is look at the interactions of organisms in our courtyard, build cell models, observe cells under the microscope build DNA molecules and find out some of our dominant and recessive genes. The second half of the year focuses the different kingdoms of living things studying the structures and functions of species that are in each kingdom.
