Safe Environments

Archdiocese of Seattle

Safe Environment Program

In 2002, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop’s drafted the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People to ensure the safety of children involved in all Church sponsored activities and to raise parental awareness of child safety issues. Within the Archdiocese of Seattle this program is referred to as the Safe Environment Program.

Requirements for Parents and Volunteers

All volunteers who work one-on-one with minors or vulnerable adults are required to complete the Safe Environment class. This is a 3-hour class which is provided here at St. Charles. There is also an annual update which must be completed on-line through the Archdiocese.

If you are planning to be a field trip driver, volunteer in the classroom, healthroom, or library you will be required to take this course. We are strongly encouraging all parents/guardians to take this training. It is very informative and eye-opening.

To sign up for the training, go to: www.seattlearch.org and click the Safe Environment link or go to: www.seattle.setanet.org and click on “register for classes” then scroll down the list of locations until you find the one you are able to attend. You must pre-register for the classes; walk-ins are not allowed.

If you have completed the 3-hour Safe Environment class, you are required to do an annual update. You can access this online update by going to www.seattle.setanet.org and clicking on “My Obligations”. Once your information is entered, you can follow the prompts to complete the update. This should only take about 15 minutes.

We appreciate your willingness to volunteer at St. Charles Borromeo School. These classes are informative and help keep our children safe – we all want that!

Sincerely,

Patrick Feist
